Anxiety Symptoms and How to Sooth Them

Let’s be honest severe anxiety when it hits is crippling. And quite frankly it feels like you are about to drop dead. If you had an attack recently it leaves you unable to go to shops, drive a car or even leave the house for fear one will strike when you are out. Sometimes it can take days to recover. Even if anxiety attacks are familiar to us, when one comes on we can still panic and think we are about to die. So read on for anxiety symptoms and how to sooth them.

Some of us are naturally more prone to anxiety or have suffered a trauma in our lives that has heightened it. But anxiety can also be brought on by a build-up of smaller stressful life situations.

Having suffered with anxiety attacks myself I believe that they are caused by a build-up of negative energy trapped in the body.

Even if we are aware the symptoms, we have is most likely to be anxiety we can still panic and fear that we are about to drop down dead.

PALPITATIONS

Heart palpitations that are heartbeats that suddenly become more noticeable.

Your heart may feel like it is pounding, fluttering, or beating irregularly, often for just a few seconds or minutes. You may also feel these sensations in your throat or neck.

Palpitations may seem alarming, but in most cases, they are harmless and are not a sign of a serious problem.

CHEST TIGHTNESS

The more we panic, the tighter the muscles in our chest can get. Digestive and stomach symptoms are also common for those who struggle with stress and anxiety. These digestive and stomach symptoms can mirror chest tightness, pressure, and pain.

PINS AND NEEDLES

Anxiety and stress can cause muscles to tighten, which in turn may cause nerves to compress which then results in the pins and needles feelings within the body.

NUMBNESS

It is common for anxiety to cause feelings of numbness and tingling. This can occur almost anywhere on the body but is most felt on the face, hands, arms, feet, and legs. It is caused by the blood rushing to the most important parts of the body that can aide fight or flight.

SHORTNESS OF BREATH

When we are stressed or worried, the muscles that help us breathe tighten. This makes us breathe faster than normal. You may feel like you’re not getting enough air, which can make you panic and make your breathing even shallower. You also may also experience sweating, chest pain, and feeling faint.

HEAD PRESSURE

Tension headaches are common for people that struggle with anxiety. Tension headaches can be described as a heavy head, migraine, head pressure, or feeling like there is a tight band wrapped around your head. These headaches are due to a tightening of the neck and scalp muscles.

INFLAMMATION

Inflammation is a protective response that helps the body rid itself of offending stimuli such as a irritants or pathogens. However, research has shown that acute levels of stress and anxiety can also cause inflammation in the body such as the hands, legs, and feet.

BLURED VISION

When we are severely stressed and anxious, high levels of adrenaline in the body can cause pressure on the eyes, resulting in blurred vision. People with long-term anxiety can also suffer from eye strain during the day on a regular basis.

SKIN ITCHING

When anxiety kicks in, your body’s stress response can go into overdrive. This can affect your nervous system and cause sensory symptoms like burning or itching of the skin, with or without visible signs. You can experience this sensation anywhere on your skin, including your arms, legs, face, and scalp.

What to do

What can you do when you are experiencing all or some of these symptoms?

Drink a glass of cold water

Cool yourself down

Smell a relaxing scent such as lavender oil

Try and cry or get close to crying because this is a great way to release resistance in the body.

Have a drink of alcohol but not too much as this can increase anxiety.
